Seniors Activity Centres to help elderly integrate & live as valued citizens

SINGAPORE: The government wants to integrate senior citizens and promote active ageing with the help of Seniors Activity Centres.

Foreign Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam said this at a community event on Sunday morning.

He said: "Government, as a society, we want every citizen, including every senior citizen to be part and parcel of society, to really feel a valued member of society.

"For that I'm grateful to the Lions for coming in and working in partnership with the government in making lives much more meaningful."

Mr Shanmugam joined more than 1,000 senior citizens in a walk around Chong Pang Community Club.

It was organised by local welfare organisation, the Lions Befrienders, which runs three seniors activity centres in Ang Mo Kio, Bendemeer and Mei Ling Street.

Three more Lions senior centres will open by the end of the year in Ghim Moh, Clementi and Tampines.
